International Archives Day
UNESCO, Paris, 9-11 June 1948
From June 9 to 11, 1948, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) in Paris convened a meeting of experts to establish the International Council on Archives (ICA). The first constitution of ICA was adopted at the meeting: archivists from all countries in the world should work together to protect archives, carry out identification and provide access "for all mankind"; archives and documents are the same as the heritage shared by the world and all mankind.
In November 2007, in order to celebrate the 60th anniversary of ICA's establishment on June 9, 2008, all ICA members designated June 9 of each year as International Archives Day. In 2013, the the People's Republic of China National Archives Bureau decided to take June 9 of each year, the "International Archives Day", as the publicity activity day of the archives department.
Why are archivists called "Lantai people"?
The Lantai is passed on to future generations, and the ancient history is illuminated for thousands of years.
The central archives keeping institutions of different dynasties in our country have different names: Zhou is Tianfu, Han is Lantai, Dongguan and Shiqu, Tang is the history museum, Song is the cabinet library, Yuan is the cabinet library, Ming is the emperor Shi Xi, Houhu Huang Shi library, Cabinet library, Daben Tang, ancient and modern Tongji library, Qing is the cabinet library. It can be seen that Lantai is the place where books are collected in the palace of the Han Dynasty. It is the earliest official archives in my country. It is in the charge of the imperial history. Later dynasties call Yushitai Lantai, and Sima Qian is one of the diligent archivists.
In the Eastern Han Dynasty, Lantai ordered Shi Bangu to write history by imperial edict, so later generations are also called historians Lantai. Tang Gaozong also changed the secretary province to Lantai. After thousands of years of evolution, the term "Lantai" has now become synonymous with archival storage institutions and archival work, and archivists are also called "Lantai people".
